We’re not going to lie, this was a tough one to write.
Going into this project, I think it’s fair to say that we were all fans of the 2015 movie, and we could all agree that the idea of a sequel made sense. But when it came down to what exactly that sequel would entail, well, that’s where it got a little trickier.
We really wanted to make sure that we weren’t just providing another opportunity to hang out with these fun characters, but were crafting a story around them that actually justified a double dipping.
What eventually started to resonate with us was the idea of exploring the world of U.N.C.L.E. beyond just the U.S.A./Soviet Union dynamics of the first one. This point in history is just so fascinating from a number of angles, from the lingering fallout of WWII, to the burgeoning Space Race, and the overall blanket effect that the Cold War had on the global community at large.
Beyond that, this one is admittedly a little bit heavier on the action than our previous (even more so than Star Wars!), but I do hope we that captured at least some of the spirit of the first one in our dialogue and characterizations.
